From a technical and visual perspective, I think it’s a really beautiful film. I think director Antoine Fuqua captures the swamplands of Louisiana perfectly and the color shift towards black-and-white are an effective way at making this story stand out.
I love all of the sweeping aerial shots that seemed like they were filmed with a drone and found them to be extremely immersing.
Will Smith delivers another knockout performance, among one of the best of his career. In some ways, this feels like his THE REVENANT film.
The final act of the film is pretty powerful.
