Full Media Blackout

I first heard about this concept from a brilliant guy on Twitter, @tvaziri and it immediately struck a chord with me. He defines full media blackout as: avoiding all trailers, articles, photos, or any pre-release information for a film you know you’re going to see.

How do I accomplish this?

Setting up a pretty rigorous set of mute filters in my Twitter client helps a lot. That blocks a bunch of keywords, hashtags, and any official Twitter user accounts for the films that I’m trying to avoid.

How do I avoid trailers when I’m in a theater waiting for a movie to start?

Answer: the only way I know how. Fingers in my ears, eyes closed, while humming to myself to drown out any noise and dialogue. Yes, I’m that guy but I’ve come to terms with it because it works.

Here’s a list of upcoming movies for which I’m on full media blackout:

  • Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2
  • How to Train Your Dragon 3
  • Creed II
  • Glass
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Spider-man: Far From Home
  • Frozen II
  • X-Men: Dark Phoenix
  • Toy Story 4
  • Star Wars: Episode IX

I know it won’t be easy but it will be worth it to see them with fresh eyes.
