Movie Log 🍿 - Kandahar, 2023 - ★★
This was “fine” for me. Not a bad movie but also nothing very noteworthy either. It just felt kind of bland to me.

Some great, unique gift ideas for just about everyone.
This was “fine” for me. Not a bad movie but also nothing very noteworthy either. It just felt kind of bland to me.
I’ve seen this a bunch of time since my youth but not in years. We watched this with my boys tonight and I was surprised by how icky and gross it made me feel. Arnie and Sinbad’s character’s are utterly despicable people and it really paints them both in a bad light as men and as fathers.
There were some laugh out loud moments for me though — especially when Arnie is flexing (no pun intended) some of his physical comedy chops, which made me smile.
On the whole, this is not a good movie and one that I won’t rush to see again anytime soon.
My mom just messaged me that she use Apple Pay for the first time and was amazed how easy it was to use.
Like a good son, I snarked:
“Nice! Welcome to 2017.” 😝
I had fun with this! It’s a great 80’s/slasher/time travel movie with the best elements of each, executed well with fun characters.
The director and lead actress were an unknown to me going in, but I’m excited to see what they each do next!
This seems like a story that I’ve seen a bunch of other times in the MCU so it doesn’t feel fresh or all that interesting. I can see parts from Peter Parker, Kamala Kahn, Tony Stark, and Ant-Man.
None of the characters seem real or grounded. And most of them were pretty annoying to me.
On the bright side, some of the cinematography and visual effects were pretty great.
In the whole, it’s was mildly fine. I’ll probably watch it again when there’s a sequel or whenever Blue Beetle shows up again in a DCU film.
It has some of the most epic and realistic battle sequences put to screen.
It’s a very well made movie by a masterclass filmmaker in Ridley Scott.
However, this isn’t for me. I’m usually meh on historical stuff anyways and this was very heavy in political history that just didn’t grab me.
I appreciate the importance of Napoleon as a historical figure and I think Joaquin Phoenix was great in the role.
This is VERY much an Adam Sandler movie and the humor is slapstick and goofy with lots of jokes for adults, too.
I thought the first half was better and more interesting than the second half.
My kids thought it was hilarious but I’m in no rush to see it again.
This movie had some VERY heavy themes. The story and direction were really great — props to Zach Braff on the execution.
I just kept thinking — this could happen to anyone. What would I do in similar circumstances?
Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman were terrific.
A powerful story about a pledge and a commitment towards another soldier.
Jake Gyllenhall was great, per usual.
Wow, this is terrific! I REALLY enjoyed the music!
The voice cast is top notch. The story and characters are interesting and entertaining.
The animation style was very striking but beautiful — a mix of watercolor and computer animation.
This was more fun than I expected it to be. This is one of my wife’s favorites from her youth and I was willing to give it a chance and watch it with our kids.
Aside from the lead performance, most of the other acting talent is unremarkable and on par with other late 90’s films.
I was ESPECIALLY in awe of how great the VFX was in her body double work. We ended up watching a ‘behind the scenes’ extra’ on YouTube afterwards.
It’s kind of a cross between ‘Inception’ and ‘The Adjustment Bureau’, only not nearly as good as either.
This is far from Robert Rodriguez’ best film, and also far from Ben Affleck’s best work.
The ending required a LOT of exposition to piece things together and it still didn’t make a lot of sense.
Nah, I didn’t like it — although I wanted to.
This is on par with the two other most recent ’Transformers’ movies. It has a few shining moments, but on the whole it’s a bit of a letdown for me.
This is my least favorite of the trilogy. The story was meh. The songs weren’t as catchy. The jokes didn’t land with me as much either. And some of the mini side plots were super weird, even for a ‘Trolls’ movie.
But, my kids LOVED it and said it was their favorite one so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like this before! It’s pretty wild!
It’s basically non-stop action for 86 minutes 😆.
The music is packed with 80’s metal hair bands in the best possible way.
It was great to watch this in 4K Dolby Vision, despite the source material coming from 1986.
Still great! See previous review for specifics.
This was my kid’s pick for movie night.
I liked it. I like how the story was broken up into separate chapters.
I really enjoyed hearing Michael Fassbender’s inner dialogue — he’s not much of an outward talker.
He struck me as very capable but also flawed in some ways that made him seem like a Patrick Bateman-type character.
The score was another good one from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
My Ranking of David Fincher Films 🏆🍿🎬
On the whole, I enjoyed it.
The trio of Marvel’s were pretty fun to watch interact.
The Kamala Kahn character and her family were just as delightful as they were in the Ms. Marvel MCU TV show too.
The villain was completely forgettable, unfortunately. I did not find that character interesting nor did I really understand her motivation, and it just didn’t work for me.
Director David Fincher does a convincing job at capturing old-timey films of that era. And while I’m certainly no expert of those kinds of films, I appreciate what he and his crew were able to do with pacing, tone, and lighting for black-and-white to make this film.
Unfortunately, it just didn’t keep my interest past the first hour and I had trouble understanding the plot.

Such a terrific and fascinating story!
Ben Affleck plays a convincing aloof, naive husband.
